An Overview of Immigration to Prince Edward Island

PEI PNP Express Entry

The PEI Express Entry category is for individuals who are eligible to enter the Express Entry pool and are looking to work and settle in the province. Candidates who fulfill the requirements and have the skills required for Prince Edward Island's labor market can apply for the stream. Unlike the other Express Entry-aligned PNP programs, the PEI Express Entry stream does not require the candidate to have an employment offer. Nominations through the PEI PNP program will increase the chances of receiving an ITA for PR.

Note: Candidates who are not currently pursuing their studies but reside in PEI with a valid study permit may not be eligible to apply for the program.

 

Eligibility requirements for the PEI Express Entry stream

To receive a nomination through the PEI Express Entry stream, one must:

• Be eligible for any one of the Express Entry-economic immigration programs:

• Federal Skilled Worker Class
• Federal Skilled Trades Class
• Canadian Experience Class

• Have an active Express Entry profile and be placed in the Express Entry pool
• Proof of full-time work experience with a PEI employer for at least nine consecutive months 
• Form PEIW-03: PEI Workforce Use of Representative Form (If required)
• Have a minimum of four months left on your work permit at the time of EOI submission if:
  • You are a PGWP holder and have graduated from an institution outside Prince Edward Island
  • You own a SOWP (Spousal open work permit)

Labour Impact Category

Skilled Worker Stream

Individuals who are currently employed in PEI or have an employment offer from an employer in Prince Edward Island can apply for the skilled worker stream. Eligible skilled workers who are employed in skilled occupations or professions, have prior work experience and have a post-secondary degree or diploma qualify for the skilled worker stream.

 

Eligibility Requirements for Skilled Worker stream

One must fulfill the requirements given below to apply for the skilled worker stream:

• Have a long-term, full-time employment offer from a PEI-based employer. The job offered must be in NOC Skill level 0, A, or B.
• Have a valid and registered work permit if you are employed in PEI.
• Be a legal citizen in your country of residence. 
• Be present for an interview at the Office of Immigration (If applicable)
• Completed a degree or diploma of a minimum of 2 years
• Be aged between 21-59
• Have a minimum of two years of professional working experience in the past five years
• Have sufficient funds to settle in PEI.
• Show proof of intent to work and settle in PEI.
• Score a minimum of 50 points on the Labour Impact Self-Assessment.
• Must be proficient in English or French languages

 

The test can be verified via any of the following:

• Language test from an IRCC-approved institute with a CLB 5 in the recent five years
• A declaration of language proficiency from an employer in PEI
• Proof from an institution that is globally recognized stating that the primary language studied is in French or English

 

Critical Worker Stream

Individuals currently employed by an employer in Prince Edward Island and have their employers willing to sponsor them for permanent residence may be eligible to apply for the PEI PNP program. Foreign workers with at least two years of professional experience in an unskilled or semi-skilled occupation can qualify for the critical worker stream.

 

Eligibility Requirements for Critical Worker stream

One must fulfill the requirements given below to apply for the critical worker stream:

• Have a long-term and full-time employment offer from a PEI-based employer. The job offered must be in NOC Skill level C or D occupations:

International Graduate Stream

Recent graduates from recognized and well-established post-secondary institutions (Universities and colleges) in PEI with an employment offer from an employer in PEI can be eligible to apply for the PEI International graduate stream. Graduates must have a verified work permit and are working in any of the skilled professions in their field of study.

 

Eligibility Requirements for International Graduate Stream

One must fulfill the requirements given below to apply for the International graduate stream:

• Have a long-term, full-time employment offer from a PEI-based employer. The job offered must be in NOC Skill level 0, A, or B.
• Have been employed in full-time work for at least six months for an employer in PEI
• Have a legal Canadian status and a registered Post-graduate work permit (PGWP)
