What is Canada PR vs US Green Card?

Canada and the U.S. are the two most popular countries for permanent residency. Individuals can get permanent residency in Canada through the Canada PR, while the US Green Card authorizes permanent residency in the U.S. With a Canada PR, you can live and work in Canada for a maximum of 5 years.

To be eligible for permanent residency in Canada, you must have scored 67 points or above through the CRS or Comprehensive Ranking System. On the other hand, you can be eligible for a US Green Card through sponsorships, employment-based categories, and DV lotteries.

As per the recent Canada Immigration Levels Plan 2025-2027, the country aims to invite 395,000 new permanent residents by the end of 2025. Meanwhile, the U.S. is likely to issue 165,000 Green Cards in 2025.
