Yes, you can apply for Canada PR without IELTS. There are other alternatives for proving your language proficiency. Language proficiency tests such as the TOEFL, PTE, and CELPIP for English language tests, while the TEF Canada and TCF Canada can be taken to prove your French language proficiency.

It is also possible to get Canada PR without IELTS through other pathways, such as the Canada PNP, LMIA-based Work Permit, or Express Entry’s French-speaking skilled worker stream, etc. While there are options to apply for PR without IELTS, proving your language proficiency is still a PR requirement.

What are the Alternatives to IELTS for Canada PR?

There are alternative ways to be eligible for Canada PR without IELTS. Some other pathways through which you can qualify for Canadian PR without IELTS are given below:  

  • The CELPIP Exam: CELPIP is another language proficiency test you can take instead of IELTS. You need a score of 7 in CELPIP to be eligible for Canada PR. This test is computer-based and comparatively easy. 
  • Working on LMIA-based Work Permit: An LMIA or Labour Market Impact Assessment work permit authorizes you to work in Canada without IELTS. Applicants can qualify through TOEFL, PTE, or CELPIP.
  • Provincial Nominee Programs: Canada PNP or Provincial Nominee Program candidates can apply for Canada PR without IELTS. Many Canadian provinces such as Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, and provinces in the Atlantic region do require IELTS scores to apply for Canada PR.
  • Proficiency in French: French language proficiency tests can qualify candidates for a Canada PR visa. Candidates looking to settle in Quebec or join French-speaking communities in other Canadian provinces can also apply for Canadian permanent residency by proving their French language proficiency. The Canada Express Entry program regularly holds Express Entry Draws, targeting French-speaking candidates to apply for PR.
