A Canadian Permanent Resident Card (PR card) is a travel and identification document issued by the IRCC to individuals granted permanent residency status in Canada. How to Return to Canada without a Valid Canada PR Card?

A Canada PR card is generally valid for 5 years. However, in some cases, it is valid for 12 months. If the validity of your Canada PR card expires, you can apply for a new card to prove your PR status in Canada. You will be given 6 months after the expiry to apply for a new PR card. If you exit the country with an invalid PR card, you will be required to apply for a permanent resident travel document (PRTD) to re-enter the country.
